Schooter retro review CONTRACT WARS

For many gamers, Contract Wars remains something unknown and distant, although a considerable share of players still remembers what “Prokill” is. However, regardless of which of the camps you are considering yourself, let’s touch the game again.

Today, Contract Wars is known as the old browser shooter and the first project of Nikita Buyanov in this genre. But few people know that it was Contract Wars that was the first free browser shooter in the world, the quality of the implementation of which allowed the game to compete even with some Standalone projects, and direct competitors from the browser … even then looked very doubtful.

A solid arsenal is one of the key advantages Contract Wars. At the first launch, the interface hints – there will be something to walk around with. The variety of both acquaintances and quite rare weapons in the game industry is amazing, and recently their total amount exceeded 100 units. Moreover, each sample is well developed, most have a special weapon task, and at a certain moment the developers began to add customization – now the complete freedom of configuration of the sight, the muzzle and tactical unit, instead of previously prepared sets.

Part of the weapon is purchased for loans mined in battles, the other for premium valu, and one of the sets contains a special class weapon, and to get these guns, you will need to seriously give up in all three currencies: both for pumping the desired branch of a certain class, and for unlocking the weapons directly.

Ganpley in Contract Wars good. Yes, not just good, but one of the most visually pleasant at that time. High -quality models, the correct location on the screen and good animations with sounds create a very good impression of shooting. Even its implementation through a random spray and hitskans did not seem terrible then, but was the norm in the industry.

Very good against the backdrop of competitors Contract Wars highlighted the visual component. And now the game looks tolerable thanks to a holistic realistic-hare style and high-quality shaders. Although, of course, today she is outdated on all fronts. The game does not even support the resolution of screens above FullHD, not to mention the developers to improve the graphics itself.

What if a recent update came out only after 2 years of silence and, to put it mildly, is a copy of the weapons from HireD OPS – another game Absolutsoft.

By the way, confusion begins here: in the material about https://bookmakersnotongamstop.co.uk/review/slots-amigo/ the history of the studio, I said that the key part of the ABSOLUTSOFT team was separated to work on Escape from Tarkov, calling itself Battlestate and denying any current connection with Absolutsoft. Those, in turn, continued to work on Contract Wars and Hireed Ops. But recently, in the cover of the game group and on its website, the developer has BSG, who previously argued that the only connection between the two studios only in the overall setting of their games.

This is true, Contract Wars is part of the Russia 2028 universe, like Escape from Tarkov. The setting tells of the very “contract wars” that later led to EFT events. That is why in Tarkov you can find a sawmill from Contract Wars, and soon a lighthouse will also appear on the coming location of the same name.

The motivating system of progression and clans played a role in the popularization of Contract Wars, which worked perfectly for playing players. With each new level and unlocked weapons, with each pumped skill of the clan and character, the player felt better and elite.

There are 70 levels in the game, for each of which the player received one unit SP, just necessary for pumping a fighter. And there were no restrictions on the development of classes – that is, you can safely open all sniper skills for accuracy, while at the full pumping body armor of the attack aircraft.

If you do not keep up with the enemy, the game allows you to buy another 10 SP for premium vaulting, the rest will need to be extracted from contracts, and with a meager chance of skill Point may fall out in a daily roulette.

And here the game rests on its own cornerstone. Despite the fact that the RPG-component motivates the player to develop, it gives rise to a huge disbalance, because you can simply buy attempts for roulette and hope for a few additional pumping points. Previously, on YouTube, there was even a format of Open-roupler for bloggers in the game. And the developers said that roulette has become one of the most profitable mechanics of the game, along with accelerated unlocking meta-levels in customization. He is like that-Free-2-Play gaming.

However, the developers had resources both on the development of the Contract Wars itself and for the still classified work on another project – Escape from Tarkov. The game was even preparing to become a new cyberdiscipline in all: tournaments were held on it and a full -fledged adversarial regime “Contract Wars League” was developed.

The reason for success lies not only in the very worthy visual and motivating progression, but also the opportunity to play in any simple browser from any social network, without the need to download the client to a PC. And this allowed to play literally anywhere and for anything: at home, at work or study, visiting or on a weak laptop on vacation.

It is not surprising that such ultra -high accessibility of the game, coupled with the overall quality of the study, led the game to inevitable success – more than 40 million accounts around the world!

But difficult times for the studio came in 2015, when the game was at the peak of popularity: browsers one after another refused to support the key plugin necessary for the work of Unity Web Player, and therefore Contract Wars.

Unfortunately, by this moment, the developers did not manage to go beyond the browser, although they had more than once shared such intentions. The shooter has long found his audience: literally every schoolboy and office worker knew about him. The game community was madly waiting for the client version of Contract Wars and in the shortest possible time gave the game green light in the then existing Steam Greenlight program.

It was assumed that the independent version of Contract Wars will cease to be constrained by the scope of browsers, and the developers will be able to significantly improve the graphics, add new mechanics and process the balance, already having the experience of developing a browser game behind them. But contrary to the expectation of fans, news of an independent heir still did not appear.

One of the most popular Free-2-Play Games of that time began to fade away before our eyes, and the developers only delayed the inevitable, making attempts to agree with the browsers on the extension of the support of the plugin.

In 2017, the studio is released by Contract Wars … But this is not the long-awaited Standalone! The developers only created a small launcher that allows you to avoid browsers and continue to play Contract Wars.
In the future, the client version of the game received several updates, the latter of which was in 2019, if you do not take into account the recent addition of weapons from Hird Ops.

And unfortunately, the history of Contract Wars is approaching its logical conclusion. Absolutsoft for too long ignored the possibility of going beyond the browser and the development of the game concept in the next announced project. But when they realized, it was already too late, and today the final decline of the game was only a matter of time.

But Contract Wars is not the only Absolutsoft project: the studio has some hopes on Hird Ops and I would like to tell about this project in the future. In the meantime, tell us if you played Contract Wars and what do you think about the current position of the game.
